Without this recognition, no one will be able to determine whether a particular expression or practice constitutes their heritage.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-rounded is-style-rounded--1\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vinhomadeira.web.uma.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/11.-Visita-Luis-Costa-16.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><strong>It is solely the responsibility of the communities, groups, or individuals<\/strong> who create, maintain, and transmit manifestations of intangible cultural heritage to decide whether it should be recognised as such.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In practical terms, any application for inscription on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage must demonstrate that the relevant communities, groups, or individuals consent to the request. To this end, the dossier submitted to UNESCO must include statements confirming their <strong>free, prior and informed consent<\/strong>.
